Guadalupe County's adopted fiscal 2027 budget funds three new sheriff's patrol deputy positions and three new county fire rescue firefighter positions.

For residents who rely on county patrol and fire response, the adopted plan adds three positions to each service's staffing budget. The entries describe funded positions, rather than six workers confirmed on duty. The budget took effect Oct. 1, 2026.

From the source record

Guadalupe.News calculations from the county's adopted FY2027 budget, using the FY2026 and FY2027 department tables.Figures are department budgets, not the cost of the six positions alone.

How the department budgets change

The sheriff's department budget was $23,715,526 for fiscal 2026. For fiscal 2027 it is $26,257,536, an increase of $2,542,010, according to a Guadalupe.News calculation from the county budget tables. The fire departments budget moves from $5,256,133 to $5,923,581, an increase of $667,448. Those are changes in entire department budgets; the figures do not assign the full increases to the new positions.

The staffing additions and spending increases answer different questions. The position list identifies what the county budgeted for its workforce; the department tables show the overall amount budgeted to operate each service. A department increase cannot, by itself, establish the pay or equipment cost of any one position, or show when a position will be filled.

A conflicting countywide count

The budget's page 8 overview lists 16 new full-time positions, while the page 12 position list identifies 14 full-time positions and one part-time position. The six patrol and fire rescue positions appear in that later list. Because the two countywide counts differ, a single countywide total would overstate what these figures establish.

The next useful record is a corrected personnel schedule or budget amendment that identifies the governing countywide count. Readers can inspect the county's adopted budget through the auditor's budget page and compare its overview with the position list and department tables.
