Guadalupe County budgeted $5,163,881 for debt service in fiscal 2027, up $2,457,421 from its adopted fiscal 2026 budget, according to a Guadalupe.News calculation from the county budget.
That is an increase of about 90.8% in the annual amount set aside to pay debt principal and interest. The comparison comes from the county's adopted budget figures compiled in the newsroom's budget calculation.
From the source record
The increase is the difference between the two annual budgets, not a third year of spending.
The adopted fiscal 2026 debt-service budget was $2,706,460. The fiscal 2027 budget took effect October 1, 2026. These figures describe planned payments during each fiscal year; they are not the balance the county owes.
Where the payments go
The fiscal 2027 debt-service schedule assigns $1,500,000 in principal and $914,944 in interest to Tax Notes Series 2026. Together, those scheduled amounts account for $2,414,944 of the year's debt-service budget, based on the Guadalupe.News calculation from the adopted budget. Principal pays down an obligation; interest is the cost of borrowing. The annual budget also covers other debt payments, so the Tax Notes figures should not be mistaken for the full year's total.
