Guadalupe County proposes moving $81,404 from hourly employee budget lines to overtime lines for its jail and Sheriff’s Office.

The county’s proposed budget amendment 26-104 assigns $41,712 of the transfer to the jail and $39,692 to the Sheriff’s Office. Commissioners are scheduled to consider it Oct. 27.

The proposed amendment lists equal decreases to hourly pay accounts and increases to overtime accounts.

The transfer would change which personnel accounts cover already incurred overtime costs for the county jail and Sheriff’s Office. It moves money out of hourly pay accounts and into overtime accounts. The document describes a reallocation within the personnel budget, not an additional appropriation.

Proposed FY2026 personnel transfers in budget amendment 26-104
DepartmentDecrease: hourly payIncrease: overtime
Jail$41,712$41,712
Sheriff’s Office$39,692$39,692

The figures are proposed transfers between accounts, not new spending authority.

The county gives one reason for the change: additional overtime cost incurred in FY2026. That establishes the purpose of the proposed accounting shift. The amounts alone cannot show how many employees worked overtime, how many hours they worked, or whether staffing levels changed. Those questions require payroll hours and staffing records.

Commissioners’ Oct. 27 action is the next point to check. Residents can inspect the proposed transfer in the county’s amendment document, then compare it with the court’s posted outcome to see whether the amounts were approved or changed.
