Guadalupe County commissioners are scheduled to consider a $32,000 General Fund budget amendment Oct. 27 to relocate two donated modular buildings for county fire use.

The proposed budget amendment 27-2 assigns money to repairs and utilities, but moving the buildings depends on the court accepting them.

The county’s proposed amendment identifies a Marion location and alternatives for the second donated building.

One building is proposed for 529 S. Center St. in Marion as a temporary fire station. For Marion-area residents, the proposal identifies a specific facility site; the posted amendment does not establish that a station is operating there.

Two buildings, two uses

The San Antonio Fire Department donated the two modular buildings described in the county's proposal. The second building is proposed for the county fire department at either the current JP 4 site on FM 725 or another site on FM 1978. Those locations are alternatives in the proposal, rather than a final selection.

The proposed $32,000 would come from General Fund balance. The amendment assigns $17,000 to building and equipment repair and $15,000 to water, septic and electrical utility work. These are spending categories for the relocation proposal; the amendment does not allocate a separate amount to each destination.

The two cost categories total $32,000; the packet does not assign a separate cost to either building.

What commissioners must decide

The move is contingent on commissioners accepting the buildings. The posted material presents the budget amendment and potential locations as proposals, so a court outcome is needed to establish whether the donation and funding proceed. The county’s Oct. 27 meeting is listed for 10 a.m.; the proposed amendment is identified as item 8J.

Readers can inspect the site alternatives and cost categories in the county's budget amendment 27-2. The Oct. 27 court outcome is the next record to check for acceptance, funding and any direction on the second location.
