The adopted budget now allocates about $627,000 to Animal Control. Residents need staffing and call records to judge what field service it supports.

Guadalupe County’s adopted FY2027 Animal Control budget appropriates $627,014. Nearly nine dollars in ten go to personnel. What does that leave for the work in the field?

A Guadalupe.News line-by-line calculation of the county workbook puts $555,864 in personnel, 88.7% of the department total, and $71,150 in operations, 11.3%. Those figures describe authorized spending, not actual payroll or completed service.

From the source record

The adopted budget covers Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027. That gives residents a defined year in which to compare the allocation with staffing and call records as they become available.

What does $627,014 buy for Animal Control?

The split is the clearest answer the budget provides. Personnel receives most of the authorization; operations receives a much smaller share. The table compares the two categories against the department’s full appropriation. It does not show how much the county will ultimately spend.

Personnel services$555,86488.7%
Operations$71,15011.3%
Total$627,014100%

Shares are Guadalupe.News calculations from the official workbook; rounding may affect totals.

The personnel column includes $350,659 for hourly employees, $23,400 for part-time pay, $85,176 for group medical and $49,009 for retirement. These are individual budget lines within the personnel total, not additional money on top of it.

What is in the operations allowance?

The operations column includes $20,000 for fuel, $10,500 for miscellaneous expenses and $1,000 for veterinarian services. Those examples account for part of the $71,150 operations authorization; they are not a complete list of operating lines.

Look at the split another way: the hourly-employee line alone is much larger than the entire operations category. That comparison helps locate the budget’s emphasis, but it cannot tell a resident how many employees were actually available on a given day.

What service still needs measuring?

For residents who rely on county Animal Control, these appropriations authorize spending but cannot measure field hours or response times. A salary line cannot serve as a roster of filled positions, and a fuel allowance cannot serve as a count of calls handled.

The next useful records are a dated staffing roster and dispatch or call logs for the same budget year. They would let residents compare authorized dollars with the hours and responses actually delivered. The county’s budget workbook provides the starting figures for that check.
