To get Guadalupe County emergency alerts on a mobile device or by email, register your contact information and each address of interest through the county's Regional Emergency Alert Network page, then activate the registration from the confirmation email.

The county describes REAN as a way for local officials to send instructions during significant emergencies, including floods, tornadoes and hazardous-material spills.

The county's REAN page explains address registration and the email activation step.

Residents with a Guadalupe County home, work or school address can register that address for area-specific emergency messages, including residents in cities such as Seguin, Schertz and Cibolo. The county says the network covers Guadalupe, Comal and Bexar counties and allows a separate registration for each address of interest in that area. The address matters: it tells the network which area's notifications you have asked to receive.

How to sign up

Start at the county's REAN page and use its Guadalupe County signup link. Enter the contact information for the devices or email accounts you want to register. The county says the system accepts cell phones, pagers and email accounts; its page also describes messages to registered standard voice and text devices. Add the address for which you want alerts, then repeat the registration for another qualifying home, workplace, school or relative's home if you want notifications for that area too.

StepWhat to do
1. OpenUse the signup link on the county REAN page.
2. RegisterEnter contact information and an address of interest.
3. Add addressesCreate a separate registration for each additional address.
4. ActivateUse the link in the confirmation email sent to the primary email account.

The county describes these steps for its regional network; the table does not describe a separate city alert service.

The last step completes the registration. The county says it sends a confirmation email to the primary email account and requires a response using the link in that message to activate the service. If you register several addresses, keep track of each registration and its activation message. The county says the information entered is for emergency notification purposes only and will not be shared with another entity.

Mobile alerts and outdoor sirens

REAN registration concerns messages to the contact methods you provide. The county also operates outdoor sirens. Its REAN page says there are 23 siren locations, used primarily to alert residents to significant weather or emergencies requiring immediate attention. A siren is a separate warning method; registering a phone or email address is the step the county provides for requesting messages tied to an address.

A Saturday noon siren test may be silent. The county says it runs siren tests at noon Saturdays without sounding them to avoid alarm during severe storms or heavy rain. It also says automated functional tests run twice daily, with results sent to Emergency Management staff. Those statements describe testing; they do not tell a resident whether a particular alert was sent to a particular device.

Where to go next

For signup, return to the county's REAN page and follow its registration link; check the primary email account for the activation message. For questions about the county's emergency management information, the Office of Emergency Management lists its office at 101 E. Court St., Suite 208, Seguin, and its phone number as (830) 303-8856. Residents seeking alerts from a particular city should check that city's official guidance for any additional service.
