Schertz says sewer averaging begins Nov. 1 for customers who receive bills on the 10th and Nov. 15 for customers who receive bills on the 25th.

The first group’s measurement window runs through March 1, 2027; the second group’s runs through March 15, according to the city’s sewer averaging notice.

Those customers’ average water use during their respective windows will determine monthly sewer charges beginning April 1, 2027. The city says it will average water usage readings during the applicable period and use that figure to calculate the charge for the following 12 months.

The published calculation for an average below 12,000 gallons per month is a $17.71 base rate plus $5.57 per 1,000 gallons of average use. For an average above 12,000 gallons, the city lists $5.57 per 1,000 gallons for the first 12,000 gallons and $13.37 per 1,000 gallons above that threshold, plus the base rate. These are rates stated in the city’s notice; the notice does not announce a newly adopted rate.

Before their window begins, customers can check whether their bill arrives on the 10th or 25th and look for leaks. The city recommends checking the water meter, repairing leaking faucets, toilets and pipes, and avoiding unnecessary outdoor watering during the averaging period.

The next dates to watch are Nov. 1 and Nov. 15, depending on the billing cycle. Customers can use the city’s published windows and rate calculation to check what will be measured; Schertz lists Utility Billing at (210) 619-1100 for questions.
