Schertz has put Stage 3 water restrictions in effect after a major transmission line break forced SSLGC to take one treatment plant offline for repairs.

The city says an alternate water source cannot meet regular demand. Its Oct. 25 water notice sets out the rules while repairs proceed.

Residents may not use sprinkler systems and may water landscapes by hand or drip only on their assigned weekday before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. The final digit of a street address sets the watering day.

Other outdoor uses

The restrictions also prohibit filling, refilling or adding water to swimming pools and hot tubs. They prohibit nonessential uses including car washing, power washing, washing hard surfaces and dust control. Construction water drawn from designated fire hydrants under a special permit must stop.

Decorative fountains and ponds generally may not operate, with limited exceptions for aquatic life or recirculating systems. Residents must repair controllable leaks after receiving notice. The city and SSLGC say repairs are underway and that updates will follow.

Residents can check the city's Stage 3 water notice for the current restrictions and any subsequent repair update. The next official update should establish whether the treatment plant has returned to service and whether Schertz changes the watering rules.
